What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade ensures that producers in developing countries get a fair price for their products and therefore improves their livelihoods and well being.

What is the Hyndburn Fairtrade Campaign?
In January 2003, The PROSPECTS Foundation began a campaign to make Hyndburn a Fairtrade Borough. The idea was originally suggested at an Oswaldtwistle Area Council meeting in June 2002, and the Foundation set up a steering group to push forward the campaign later that year.
The aim of the campaign is to persuade retailers and caterers in Hyndburn to supply Fairtrade products, such as tea, coffee and chocolate.
How does Hyndburn become a Fairtrade Borough?
In order to achieve Fairtrade status for the borough, the steering group must find 17 retail outlets and 9 catering outlets, willing to sell or serve at least 2 Fairtrade products. To date 12 retailers and 8 caterers qualify as Fairtrade outlets
The group must also encourage other local business and groups to use Fairtrade products in order to generate support for the campaign.
What can I do to help?
Look out for the Fairtrade logo, when shopping, or why not ask your local shop to stock Fairtrade products.
If you are a retailer or caterer and would like to support the campaign by supplying Fairtrade products please contact Mike Stapleford
