AUGUST & SEPTEMBER
 
We are running activities for young people during August.  Wildlife Wednesdays.  Please see the full details on the poster HERE  and start booking for one, two or all three activities.

 29th August = CHILDREN'S COMPETITION.  All the details are HERE
 
1st, 8th and 15th August (Wednesday) = 'WILDLIFE WEDNESDAYS' with Wildlife Charlie, from WildAid. A variety of activities held at Oak Hill Park, Accrington! Come along and enjoy a WildAid experience to find out how to attract wildlife to your garden or backyard and learn about what lives in your local area. More information HERE
 
2nd August (Thursday) = Family Invertebrate Day - Join Ribble Trust and The PROSPECTS Foundation to discover what's living beneath the surface of our rivers! Drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm to find out about the fascinating creatures at the heart of the aquatic food web. More information HERE
 
7th and 21st August (Tuesday) = CRAFTS AND WILDLIFE - Crafts at PROSPECTS - drop in sessionsJoin Us details on the poster.
 
11th August (Saturday) = AMPHIBIANS - Family Activity (ideal for 7-11 years KS1 and the rest of the family) with Helen Greaves.  Amphibians - Toad abode - winter habitats - also looking at the native species - egg laying etc. Biological recording - A great session for adults too and easy for kids to understand so this is a great family event. 11th & 25th August (Saturday)BIRD TABLE - hanging or wall mounted with Barry, Wood Creations.  You will learn basic woodworking skills, paint and varnish the hotel and learn about its value for the bees and pollinators in your backyard or garden. The second session is for people to complete their planter. This activity is part of the People’s Postcode Lottery funded Improving Hyndburn’s Wildlife project. 12th August (Sunday) = JUBILEE WALK with Baxenden forum. A circular walk of about 4.5 miles. More information HERE 
 
14th August (Tuesday) = GARDENING AND WILDLIFE at Accrington Women’s Centre with Julie Livesey. WOMEN'S COMMUNITY COURTYARD – a safe outdoor space where women Cherish, Nourish & Flourish together…. 19th August (Sunday) = MEET PROSPECTS at Great Harwood Charter Fair. There will be activities for children including details of the Children's Competition and Entry Forms. This activity is part of the People's Postcode Lottery funded Improving Hyndburn's Wildlife project. More information HERE
 
22nd August (Wednesday) = GrOwING Wild Family Activity with Julie Livesey at the Allotment on Hill Street funded through the Windfall Fund. More information HERE
 
August (Saturday & Sunday) = PLAN BEE
PLAN BEE see the presentation about Bees HERE and
PLAN BEE - The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has just been successful in securing a Windfall grant towards extending their Plan Bee project into Hyndburn. The Plan Bee project seeks to increase knowledge in and awareness of a wide range of pollinators in Lancashire Wildlife Trust’s area. The project will undertake volunteer led surveys of pollinators including solitary bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, sawflies and butterflies in upland areas of Hyndburn around Accrington, Baxenden and Oswaldtwistle Moor. The survey data collected will be fed into ongoing national surveys and will also help to inform management recommendations for landowners. The Project Officer, Ben Hargreaves, is looking for volunteers to help with the survey work from the beginning of May onwards.

SEPTEMBER
 
8TH & 22ND SEPTEMBER (Saturday) = BAT BOX - Bats need new habitats as many of thier traditional roosts have been lost over recent years.  Make somewhere nice to roost for these night-time creatures with Barry, Wood Creations.  You will learn basic woodworking skills, and finises for the box and learn about its value for the bats in your backyard or garden. The second session is for people to complete their bat box This activity is part of the People’s Postcode Lottery funded Improving Hyndburn’s Wildlife project. PROSPECTS holds regular VOLUNTEER activities at a number of sites around Hyndburn.  Please click on the sites below to find an activity near you.   Click on the What's On above for dates and times.
