Church PROSPECTS Panel
The Panel was formed about 1999 and is still going strong with many of it's original Members. Most are life long residents of Church.
We're a dedicated bunch of a variety of ages, backgrounds, skills (scrounging, recycling, relocating, skip rooting, make do and mend), abilities and characters - Captain & Mrs Dangerous, Sgt Major Scully, Mad Madge, Matron, Dusty Mears, Organic Jack, Snappie Inventor Extraordinaire; to name a few and not forgetting Eedie McCreedie.
Over the years we've worked on numerous projects - the first one back in 1999 cleaning up the river on Dineley St with BTCV. 7 tons of rubbish was pulled out ! Extreme hedge laying was another memorable event - force 10 gales, horizontal rain and a steep embankment that turned into a quagmire - always up for a challenge! Brilliant stuff.
The Panel were the driving force behind the Donkey Back picnic site on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and their ongoing project - Gatty Park Community Food Growing. This in turn has linked in with many other projects, individuals and groups - Neighbourhood Management; Hyndburn Council; Milnshaw Gardens; India Street, which featured at the Urbis Exhibition, Manchester in 2008- to name a few. We've had help and support from many others - individuals, companies small and large, friends and family, work colleagues. Without all of them, we wouldn't be where we are today.
In 2008, collectively we amassed in the region of 1800+ volunteer hours !
For 2009 we've submitted several funding bids. If we're successful, it'll be a real feather in the cap for Church Prospects Panel and a unique project to Hyndburn. Fingers crossed !
